comments on crx dash swap

ok, since i think i finally have my wiring difficulties out of the way (for now) i figured i'd comment on the crx dash in a civic si. it looks great! most everything was straight forward with a few minor exceptions. the gauge clusters are indeed different. the 88-89 clusters are different from the 90-91, with wiring charts they are interchangable (? jury is still out?). i ended up having to cut out some carpet around the shifter in order to put in the crx bracket, and i had to do some cutting on the housing around the steering column for the civic hazard switch. not too big a deal. the main bolt to hold the bottom of the console (behind the ashtray and lighter) will not match up..there's about a 2-3 inch gap. this didn't make too big a difference, as the dash was secured well by the other 5 bolts. although i could have switched out the hazard switch (maybe), i could not have switched out the rear window defroster switch without rewiring the connector on. so in addition to having two hazard switches, i have two rear window defroster switches. as luck would have it, i also managed to break the dash dimmer switch, the one thing that does plug in, so i had to add my dimmer from the old dash, bringing the list to two hazards, two rear windows defrosters, and two dimmer switches. but everything fits just like factory. hopefully i'll be able to post pics soon..

trust me, once you do it the first time, it's way easier the second time. oh, also a hard part is getting that plastic thing holding the wiring harness on near the left side of the cluster is a pain in the neck..literally..i was on my back all contorted and stuff for like 30 minutes trying to get those two screws out .

heater controls stay!!! it would be incredibly hard to switch to the crx climate control setup..you need all the wiring to go with it..pain in the arse..my si doesn't have ac, so i would have had a bunch of extra work to do. i also kept the same fresh air inlet on the left near the coin tray..much much easier that way.

You have a coin tray???? You hatch & CRX guys suck! There is a blank plate and some big-ass support beam right where I want to put my coin tray that I took off some junkyard car years ago..it is even the correct color!!!

P.S. I have the controls, they are a pain to wire up. I have the How-to dash swap in the how-to section, it's been there for quite a while now.
